Thomas Dudey, 16, of Bellaire placed first in a field of 138 competitors from 18 countries at theTorneo Internazional di Scherma Cadetti in Pisa, Italy on February 9, 2013. Thomas is now ranked seventh on the European Cadet Men’s Foil Circuit, despite having competed in only three events. He earned a bronze medal at the Handel Cup in Halle, Germany last November. Thomas is coached by Mauro Hamza of Salle Mauro Fencing Academy (4007 EE Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77025).
Other highlights from the current fencing season include a gold medal in Cadet Men’s Foil at the July North American Cup in Anaheim, California July and a top 16 finish in Division I Men’s Foil at the December North American Cup in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In January, he won the Senior Mixed Foil event at the Poujardieu Memorial at Texas State University.
Thomas is a junior at Bellaire Senior High School.
