Best New Year’s Resolution Ideas For Fencing in 2020

Blog

The New Year is off to a great start and it’s the perfect time for you to start tackling your fencing goals in 2020. Here at Space City Fencing, we help our students get clear on their goals and go for it. We offer fencing classes in Houston and Pearland, Texas for all ages.

Here are our top New Year’s Resolutions Ideas for Fencing in 2020.

1. Commit to Enjoying Your Fencing Classes

While fencing requires strength and focus, don’t forget to enjoy the time you are in class. If you’ve been learning the art of fencing for a long time, it can be easy to just go through the motions. Remind yourself how much you loved it when you first started classes and commit to finding your passion again.

2. Listen to Your Fencing Coaches

We all need someone that is more experienced than we are to help guide us in life. This is particularly true when it comes to fencers. They must set aside their pride and let their coaches give them feedback without getting an attitude. Take on a learning mindset and understand that the people who teach you are there to see you grow.

3. Let Go of Past Failures

Don’t let the failures you’ve experienced in the past years affect you today. Instead, see those experiences as what it took for you to get to where you are today. However, you can’t dwell on lost tournaments or missteps. Focus your attention on what you can do this year to become a better fencer.

4. Believe in Yourself

Speak kindly to yourself and encourage yourself on your fencing journey. Set your goals and then believe you can do what it takes to get there. Some days will be harder than others to believe in yourself, and on those days, believe the ones that love you. You have coaches, family, and other fencers that are there to cheer you on.

5. Become Friends With Others

Being friends with the people in your class will help you enjoy it more, but also, become a better student. So much of the sport is about connecting with those that share the strip with you. Some consider this to be an individual sport, but the truth is, it takes the team around you to grow in your abilities.

6. Communicate Your Goals to Your Coaches

Whatever your goals are for 2020, make sure your coaches know what they are. They will give you the instruction you need to reach those goals. Whenever you have something you’re working towards, it’s important to share with others so they can encourage you. Also, they’ll help you stay accountable when you want to quit.
